Yesterday I spent the most part of the day with my lovely friend Kate who is a new mummy to the most beautiful baby girl, Cali Luna Bear. Kate is a first time mamma who has chosen to breastfeed and I have supported her in her decision, as have other friends and family. I myself mix fed. I mixed breast and formula feeding for about 6 months. I wish I had breastfed full time but hey ho, circumstances and bad advice ensured I had to mix. I'm not against any way of feeding babies be it breast, expressed or formula. If a mother is feeding her baby she is doing a great job. A happy mummy is a happy baby as the saying goes. Imagine my shock when Kate showed me this anti breasteeding post. The woman is apparently anti feeding from the breast, not breast milk. The post was made over a year ago but still is hot topic even now. She gives 5 "reasons" not to breastfeed. Here is my retaliation post.
Crap Reason No1: Your child may be horrifed by the thought of it when they are older.
Hmm or maybe not. The child will no doubt be brought up to realise that there is nothing more natural than breastfeeding. They will learn this themselves as a breastfed child. I was breastfed and I'm not horrifed. My two TEENAGE nephews who have issues with everything and anything their mother has done don't have an issue with being breastfed. They know that it is normal. They're extremely close to their mother so no bonding issues there.
Crap Reason No2: Its incredibly unsanitary
Are you having a giraffe woman? It's unsanitary? Sweaty boobs into a baby's mouth? Honey they'll put a lot more in their mouth than a sweaty breast! And I'm pretty sure women are taught to ensure the breast is clean before breastfeeding - I was taught to give myself a wipe down before and after feeds. No sweat on this mamma.
Crap Reason No3: God gave me breasts it's what they're for but he also gave me an appendix that has NO use. This was my favourite of the shittiest reasons known to man. She comments how men also have breasts does this mean they are supposed to be pacifiers? Breasts make milk - we can't stop our bodies from doing that unless you have a medical condition that ensures you can't make breast milk. What exactly are we supposed to do with it? Pour it into a bottle and shove that into our child's mouth because of pathetic idiots like you, it's not acceptable to breastfeed in public? No thanks love, I'd rather have feeding on demand for my newborn who cannot wait to be fed. Milk on tap? More convenient than bottles.
Crap Reason No4: No one wants to be in the room when you "whip it out"
HAHAHAHAHA. Fucking hell it's not Page 3! I can honestly say I have never whipped my breasts anywhere. Don't want to be in the room when I feed my child who is hungry? Don't fucking look then! Going to use that old chestnut of you find it hard to look away? Then that's your issue not mine.
Crap Reason No 5: Breasteeding mums think they are doing such a wonderful thing that everyone should be subjected to it.
I'm subjecting you to nothing. I'm feeding my child be it at home or in public and as I said before, if you can't help but look then you clearly have issues yourself. Breastfeeding, if you can do it is a wonderful thing for mummy and baby. And that's just it - it's a mother and baby thing no one elses business. Next time you see a breasteeding mum in public and make a crap remark - just remember she's feeding her child not parading her naked fanjita and boobies across the fucking park!
I don't really care how any mother chooses to feed her chid as long as she feeds it and loves it then she's OK in my book! Seriously when are these breasteeding and bottlefeeding nazi, over opinionated, narrow minded people going to get a life and just let mothers get on with bringing up babies how they see fit? Breast, Bottle, Formula, Breast milk... either way it's the mothers choice and who the fuck are we to judge?
Just my two penneth.
Great post - completely agree with you, we need to let people make their own choices and make sure they get the support they need for these.
